Winter 2026 – “Cozy Creations: Winter Art Adventures”

 

Week 1 – Winter Warm-Ups: Snowy Self-Portraits

Focus: Oil pastels + drawing basics

Project: Self-portrait in winter clothing in a snowy scene

Skills: Proportions, layering color, emotion through art

Key Concepts: Warm vs. cool colors, portraiture

 

Week 2 – Arctic Animals in Motion

Focus: Watercolor & collage

Project: Create a scene featuring arctic animals in action (polar bears, penguins, etc.)

Skills: Layering, watercolor resist, motion in composition

Key Concepts: Habitat, texture, dynamic shapes

 

Week 3 – Story in the Snow: Illustrated Mini-Books

Focus: Narrative drawing

Project: Accordion-style illustrated book about a winter day or magical journey

Skills: Storyboarding, line art, simple bookmaking

Key Concepts: Sequence, plot, illustration

 

Week 4 – Handbuild Your Hot Cocoa Mug

Focus: Ceramic handbuilding (pinch + coil methods)

Project: Design and sculpt your own hot cocoa mug

Skills: Shaping clay, attaching pieces, designing texture and handle

Key Concepts: Function vs. form, ceramic basics

 

Week 5 – Glaze Day: Paint Your Mug

Focus: Ceramic glazing

Project: Apply colorful glaze to your fired mug from Week 4

Skills: Planning color scheme, applying glaze evenly

Key Concepts: Firing process, glaze transformation, color chemistry

 

Week 6 – Hot Cocoa Still Life + Mug Pickup & Celebration

Focus: Still life drawing

Project: Draw a cozy hot cocoa still life featuring your real mug (with cocoa and marshmallows!)

Skills: Observation, shading, composition

Bonus: End-of-session “gallery” for parents to view student work + cocoa celebration
